"Lost in Heaven" Shanghai 2008 Acrylic + mixed media Canvas 50 x 100 cm

Shanghai mit all seinen Facetten hat mich selbst nach einem Jahr des Arbeitens und Lebens dort immer noch fasziniert. Diese Faszination wiederum hat meine Fantasie beflügelt, etwas zu kreieren, das meine Art des Glücklichseins darstellt.

In diesem Kunstwerk habe ich zum ersten Mal mit Goldfasern gearbeitet, da Gold in nahezu allen Kulturen als Symbol für Luxus gilt. Damit wollte ich ausdrücken und zeigen, dass Shanghai, China sowie die Ehre, dort arbeiten und leben zu dürfen, für mich einen Luxus darstellen, den man im Leben nicht allzu oft findet.

Ich war glücklich und bin dankbar, dass mir diese Chance gegeben wurde.

Meinem Malstil hat der Aufenthalt außerhalb Europas sehr gutgetan. Ich habe dort viel gelernt und konnte mit all den Materialien experimentieren, die mir zur Verfügung gestellt wurden.

Shanghai, with all its many facets, continued to fascinate me even after a year of living and working there. This fascination, in turn, inspired my imagination to create something that reflects my own sense of happiness.

In this artwork, I worked with gold fibers for the first time, as gold is considered a symbol of luxury in almost all cultures. Through this, I wanted to express and show that Shanghai, China, and the honor of being able to live and work there represented a kind of luxury for me — something that one does not often encounter in life.

I was happy, and I am grateful that I was given this opportunity.

My painting style benefited greatly from living outside of Europe. During my time there, I learned a great deal and was able to experiment with all the materials that were made available to me.
